Authentic and Creative Living

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

To live creatively, one must be brave.  One must know themselves.  I mean REALLY know themselves.  Too often, people spend most of the time figuring out others before mastering themselves.  They spend time on what is hot or not, who is cool or old and who owns what and why.  Yawn.  When we spend too much time on what is going on outside of us, are we actually trying to avoid what may be whispering to us from the inside?

I will always trust the person who is authentic and sloppy over the poised and fearful.  I often feel like shaking them and saying – PLEASE be yourself, its so much more interesting then this politically correct holograph of every book you read on how to be liked, respected and admired in this world.

Now I certaintly like to read and keep up with things.  Many morsals are fun and interesting.  I also like to learn how to be liked, respected and admired in this world – but with a grain of salt!  We all have to work and get along, so learning ways to better do that is key (ah, I teach it).  But I would never teach a skill that would MASK the true person beneath it.   Ever.

I love new ideas and new lipstick.  I love the deep and the shallow stuff of life.  Texture is what life is all about.   But my greatest value, my most precious time spend is and has always been my inner world.  Becasue at the end of the day, I want to be myself in every situation regardless of who likes it or not.  That is authentic living.  And once we are truly authentic, we can then build creative lives.  A creative life means making a living by being yourself.  How interesting a concept.  One I encourage everyone I meet to entertain.
